Hong Kong International is bilingual throughout, but the Cantonese announcements come first. These are the words you will hear at the counter, at the gate, and on the way through immigration — with audio for each.

Frequently asked questions

How do you say airport in Cantonese?

機場 (gei1 coeng4). The Airport Express station on the MTR uses the same word.

How do you say boarding in Cantonese?

登機 (dang1 gei1) is to board. Getting off at the other end is 落機 (lok6 gei1) — 落 is the everyday Cantonese word for getting off any vehicle.

What is 過關 (gwo3 gwaan1)?

Clearing immigration or customs. Hongkongers use it constantly for crossing the border to Shenzhen as well as for the airport.
